September 2026 - Esto Association Athens / Performance of Julia Droga

For Pocket Money Extra Cash, around forty €20 notes are borrowed from various people and kept for a certain time without being spent. In this performance, money is considered in its purely material and symbolic aspect, and finds itself, for a time, suspended from the global economy. Handled in different ways, the notes become tiny flags, I spit on them, they pass from one pocket of my jeans to the other, they turn into crumpled balls of paper, I walk on them… Accompanied by a voiceover, the performance references the disappearance of cash, the ways of procuring it, the sensation of vertigo, and the systems of control that money exerts over our lives. At the end of the performance, each note is returned to its owner bearing the marks of its use.
